Ever been judged about appearance? And told to reduce the size of body, ever felt shy wearing your favourite dress? Yes!So have I and so has most of this civilisation felt. facing such situations is regarded as "body shaming"
Body shaming as defined according to the dictionary is an inappropriate negative statements and attitutes toward another person's weight or size. It can also reach into the discrimination against individuals who may be overweight.
It's not just me and you a commoners who face such circumstances but celebrities too, have faced such horrors from Bollywood to Hollywood from male to female they all have been struck by such situation. celebrities like Indian Bollywood icon Vidya Balan to Hollywood beauty serene Jennifer Lawrence, have faced it all just like us. And what they never gave up was their true self, their own body but decided to give up the words that made them doubt their beauty and talent.
According a survey,
one third and half of young girls fear becoming fat and engage in dieting or binge eating. It is also said that girls as young as five years old are worried about the way they look and their size, and one in four seven year old girls have tried to lose weight at least once. Don't be in such shock their is more to come. Also, one third of young boys aged 8-12 are dieting to lose weight. These statistics on both men and women indicate that body shaming has the power of negative affects on someone.
Each time you looked in the mirror and those daunting words of discrimination haunted you and you must have lost your emotional control, I guess many times you encountered such situations but what you forget to realise is that, this will never leave you, your body is shamed till the time you don't find comfort and happiness in your skin. People who criticise you for being "you", can only be your enemy, person that love you accepts you the way you are. And learn to love the beauty of gods finest creation "human", each one made with perfect beauty that just requires perfect eyes to discover, be yourself those perfect eyes first and then blame others for their criticism.
This world is cruel enough and they doesn't stop with the fat shaming but they certainly have problem with skinny bodies as well, that perfect body shape the so called size "0" is also a victims of body shaming. So now when we know that world and the so called "society" is going to criticise either way and in no way that we can be perfect let's try to be those who believe in perfections of imperfection.
You carry your body and make sure that's done with confidence, because if you believe in yourself, only than others will. Don't let others describe your body but be the description yourself.
If any way you think body shaming criticism is going to help, that they criticise you, so that you can improve your body size, so my dearest friends it's worth less thinking this, that in no way taking body shaming seriously will help and this has been scientifically proven in a New studies, including a 2014 report in the Journal of Experimental Social Psychology, report that body-shaming actually increases the victim’s likelihood of participating in unhealthy behaviors.
So dear girls and boys learn to move beyond the idea that your worthiness is tied to a body fat percentage or a number on the scale. And also know the importance of saying “no” to things that you don’t want to do, so you gain the freedom to say “yes” to a life that you truly love.
